About Cheryl Norris
I’m Cheryl Norris — baker, recipe developer, and photographer behind Bakes by Brown Sugar. I grew up baking with my mom, and that early experience sparked a lifelong love for turning simple ingredients into something delicious.
Today, I bring that same joy and curiosity to every recipe I develop and share with you. My goal is to inspire home bakers at all levels with reliable, seasonal recipes that are easy to follow and full of flavor.
Recipe Testing
Every recipe published on this site is developed, tested, and written by me. I test each recipe multiple times to ensure consistent results, clear instructions, and helpful tips so that you can bake with confidence. I don’t publish AI-generated content or repurpose other people’s recipes.
I use widely available ingredients and tools — including a digital scale, measuring cups and spoons, and timers — to ensure that each recipe is accessible to the home baker. You'll also find process photos and baking tips in my blog posts to support you from start to finish.
Originality and Creativity
As a self-taught baker who continues to learn through experimentation, classes, and study, I bring a deep understanding of baking science and creativity to each recipe. If a recipe is inspired by a source, whether it's a beloved cookbook, a technique learned in culinary school, or a recipe from a well-known expert, I credit the original creator and explain how I’ve adapted it
Transparency
Trust is important to me. When I recommend a product, it's because I’ve used it and genuinely believe in its quality. If a post contains affiliate links or is part of a sponsored collaboration, I clearly disclose that information in the post. All opinions are my own, and I only work with brands that align with the values of Bakes by Brown Sugar.
Photography
High-quality photos of the process and finished recipe are essential for each recipe.
Every photo on this site was taken by me in my home studio. I use natural light or studio lighting depending on the time of day and season, and I style each shot to reflect the beauty and texture of the recipe. All images are minimally edited, only for brightness, contrast, and clarity, and aren't artificially enhanced.
Community Engagement
Baking is all about sharing and community. The comment section on Bakes by Brown Sugar Food is a forum for users to ask questions or share their experiences with fellow home bakers. Users are strongly encouraged to upload their photos to share.
All comments are moderated. No one is perfect: Critical comments are welcome when stated clearly, with specific references to confusing or seemingly inaccurate information.
